The Idea
Because of its harsh winters, the region of Connecticut where Ice House Garlic is grown is known as the icebox of Connecticut. As a community effort, townspeople in the nineteenth century would cut and transport blocks of ice from the ponds to keep a supply of fresh food for all.
Today, Ice House perpetuates this tradition by supporting one another through a cooperative gardening project. All proceeds from this now locally famous Ice House Garlic are donated to the school and community for scholarships and equipment.
